Marine science bases installed and operated in Korea's Exclusive Economic Zone perform various functions and contribute to the development of the international community and the national interest, and Ieodo Marine Science Base is particularly important in its geopolitical location and its role. Therefore, it is necessary to examines the way of improving the legal system in order to properly protect and manage them. However, the waters where Ieodo is located, The Exclusive Economic Zone between Korea and China overlap, leaving the maritime boundary undefined. So, there is room for the application of Korean domestic law to protect Ieodo Marine Science Base to be seen as improper to international law. On the other hand, the jurisdiction of the state in the sea can be exercised in accordance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea , which is the same when enacting domestic laws on the protection and management of installations in the ocean. Thus, in this study, it was confirmed whether Korea’s marine science base corresponds to installations under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea . Next, reviewed whether the jurisdiction over installation in coastal countries under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea has been sufficiently reflected in Korean domestic law, and proposed the way of improving the insufficient part of the domestic law on protection and management of the marine science. Especially, about the Ieodo Marine Science Base which is installed in the overlapping waters of the exclusive economic zone and has room for confusion in its legal status, confirmed the applicability of domestic law to the Base and its legitimacy under international law, and the implications of the application of domestic law on maritime boundary delimitation.
